Record the working day with the card reader

The card reader is a Weikos page that opens on any tablet or phone. Each person holds up their identification card and the reader records their entry or exit, with Weikos’s time. The tablet is linked once with a code, without a user account, and stays full screen without turning off.

  1. On the web, go to Settings › Time tracking and turn on Card reader.
  2. In Readers, click Add reader, type in Where it is where it will be, for example “Rehearsal room entrance”, and continue. A code and its QR appear, valid for 30 minutes and only once.
  3. On the tablet, scan the QR with the camera, or open app.weikos.io/presence-reader and type the code in Link this reader.
  4. On the web you’ll see Device linked. It can now read cards..
  5. On the tablet, tap Tap the screen to start and allow the camera.

To open it with one tap, add the page to the tablet’s home screen: on an iPad, from Safari, with Share › Add to Home Screen. If the tablet is going to stay at the entrance, keep it plugged in, with auto-lock turned off and locked on the reader with Guided Access (iPad) or Screen pinning (Android). The tablet is still a tablet: you can leave the reader and come back to it whenever you like.

When idle, the reader shows the time and Hold your card up.

  1. Hold the card, printed or on the phone screen, up to the camera. If you connect a USB or Bluetooth barcode reader, you can also scan it there.
  2. The first time it records the entry, in green, with the time. The next time, the exit, in purple.
  • If someone scans the card again within a minute, the reader warns in orange that the entry is already recorded and does nothing.
  • If they had an entry open from another day, the reader closes it and asks them to scan the card again to record today’s entry.
  • If they have several active contracts at the same time, they choose on the screen which one to record the entry for.

If your role has permission to use the card reader, in time tracking, next to Hours summary, you’ll see Card reader. It opens in another tab and works the same way. What you record is saved with your name.

In time tracking, the Source column says whether each entry and exit came from the reader, the app, the web or was added manually. Hover over it to see which reader, and the record’s details show who did it. It’s also in the Excel download.

In Settings › Time tracking › Readers, open the reader’s ⋮ menu and choose Unlink. It stops reading immediately and its records are kept.

  • The tablet says Reader turned off: turn on the card reader in Settings › Time tracking.
  • The camera doesn’t show: tap Tap here to allow the camera and accept the permission. If the browser doesn’t ask, open the reader in Safari or Chrome, or connect a barcode reader.
  • It says Card not valid: the card was revoked or belongs to another institution. Print the current one.
  • It says they don’t have an active contract: their contract has ended or doesn’t have time tracking.
  • It says “No connection”: the tablet has no internet and nothing was recorded. Add the record manually in time tracking.
  • The tablet asks for the code again: it was unlinked. Add a new reader and link it again.
